On Thursday June 5th the OYAP Employer Appreciation and Student Awards Barbecue was held at the Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort in Kitchener.

This annual event celebrates the outstanding achievements of students participating in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and serves as a “thank you” to those local employers who have gone above and beyond in their work as placement supervisors for our OYAP students.

Forty-six students and forty employers were honoured at the event. Many of the students’ family members were also in attendance.

We would like to extend a “thank you” to those teachers, WRDSB administrators and representatives from Conestoga College who were present at the event. A special “thank you” goes out to Peter Rubenschuh, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, who brought greetings on behalf of the WRDSB. As well, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to Suzanne Moyer, Chair of Trades and Apprenticeships at Conestoga College, who stressed the importance of the skilled trades in today’s economy and the crucial role played by parents and employers in supporting students who have chosen to follow the apprenticeship pathway.
